Our Elevating Literacy Program is designed to ensure that effective reading instruction is provided to all students by educating and supporting parents, students, and teachers. Educators can request financial support for professional development opportunities. All community members benefit from our presentations featuring local and national experts. And, our family summer reading program, PC READS Together, emphasizes the importance of skilled reading in our everyday activities. These ongoing efforts to advocate and educate will continue to improve reading instruction for all students.
Professional Development Support: Grants are awarded on a rolling basis to support professional development opportunities such as conferences, certification programs, and webinars. We recently expanded this grant program to include requests for materials to support remote learning. Additionally, in October 2020 we began a new Educator Resource Book Project, providing a book selection that supports increased knowledge in the area of teaching reading and understanding reading disabilites.
Dyslexia Awareness Presentations: Presentations are tailored to an organization’s needs and typically include an overview of dyslexia and reading, as well as information about PC READS’ programs and services.
Elevating Literacy Award: This annual award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution towards improving the lives of students with reading disabilities, including dyslexia. The recipient receives a trophy, a small gift, and tickets to our annual fundraiser where the award is presented.
PC Reads Together: Our (New in 2020!) family summer reading challenge begins in June and our weekly challenges will spread awareness of everyday literacy skills.
Community Presentations: PC READS hosts three large community events and five smaller speaker series annually.
